NUST Merit Formula (for NET — NUST Entry Test)
NUST calculates merit using this formula:
NUST Merit = (Matric Marks × 10%) + (FSc Marks × 15%) + (NET Marks × 75%)
Let’s break this down:
Component | Weightage |
---|---|
Matric / O-Levels | 10% |
FSc / A-Levels | 15% |
NUST Entry Test (NET) | 75% |
So, the most important part of your merit is your NET score, which carries 75% weightage!
Example Calculation
Let’s say you scored:
- Matric: 900 out of 1100
- FSc Part-1: 450 out of 550 (only Part-1 marks are considered before final result)
- NET Test: 120 out of 200
Let’s calculate:
- Matric (10%) →
(900 / 1100) × 10 = 8.18
- FSc (15%) →
(450 / 550) × 15 = 12.27
- NET (75%) →
(120 / 200) × 75 = 45
Now add them:
Total Merit Score = 8.18 + 12.27 + 45 = 65.45
This 65.45 is your final NUST merit score.
Important Notes:
- Only FSc Part-1 marks are considered if Part-2 result is not declared.
- For A-Level students, NUST uses equivalence from IBCC.
- The higher your NET score, the better your chance to get into your desired field (like CS, SE, or Electrical Engineering).
What is Closing Merit?
Closing merit means the last student who got selected in a specific program. If your merit is higher than the closing merit, your chances are good.
